National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL)
Tues 10th Jan @ 7pm – Sign-up
The qualification has a flexible, modular structure that combines core modules with the freedom to specialise and develop candidates’ own professional areas of interest through the choice of an elective module. Modules cover three learning areas:
- Educational excellence
- Operational management
- Strategic leadership
All modules focus on improving the effectiveness of leadership practice and consist of workplace learning and practice activities; face-to-face workshops and online learning. Candidates will have the opportunity to:
- Access high-quality learning materials and look at accounts of practice from outstanding leaders
- Reflect on their own leadership through discussion and debate with peers
- Put theory into practice and continue to improve their own leadership in order to have a greater impact within their institution
Activities within modules have been designed to stimulate and challenge thinking, build knowledge, skills and expertise, and promote change and improvement in leadership behaviours, capability and capacity.
Delivery covers a 12 month period with the expectation that candidates will submit for final assessment within 18 months. During this time you will:
- Undertake four face-to-face sessions spread throughout the course duration
- Complete four supported online courses
- Attend regular online web conferencing for support throughout the qualification
- Be supported by a nominated in-school mentor
- Undertake a number of learning visits
The NPQSL final assessment process has been designed to enable candidates to demonstrate they can deliver successful and sustainable school improvement in their school setting, and can use the experience to reflect upon and improve their leadership competencies.
The final assessment process will comprise two assessed tasks drawn from a candidate’s work in their school in which they lead at a team level for an extended period, on a school improvement priority. The school improvement tasks will include written evidence/appropriate documentation submitted by the candidate and further evidence/verification from their sponsor and Headteacher.
|School type||Fee payable|
|All state-maintained schools and academies in England||£1,250|
|Independent/Overseas Schools||£1,250 + Assessment fees*|
* Final assessment activity will be funded for all candidates from English state-maintained schools and academies.
Participants can request exemption from the elective module (and will be entitled to a discount of £100 from the course fee) if they have completed postgraduate studies in educational leadership (certificate, diploma and higher degrees) within the last three years.
Delivery for your school alliance
If your school alliance has at least 10 staff that you wish to register for NPQSL then we can set up a bespoke group for you. This will provide you with the benefit of using your own facilities for face to face training and determining the dates and delivery model (twilights, school holidays, half-days etc).
A collaborative group will also bring a financial benefit as the candidate fees can be reduced to reflect the number of candidates and any savings made by using your school’s facilities.
If you were involved in delivery of the now discontinued MLDP programme we can support your delivery team to retrain on the new qualification and work with you to set-up and run the new NPQML qualification within your alliance.
